East Side King Grackle Truck East Side King @ The Grackle

Yesterday was my boyfriend’s birthday, and we decided to go visit [Top Chef TX winner and beloved Austin-ite] Paul Qui’s awesome chain of food trucks- the East Side King(s). Take the delicate, perfectly balanced cuisine of Paul Qui and throw it onto da streetz, B!! Our first stop was the Grackle location. It’s nestled right in front of The Grackle bar off East 6th and Chalmers Ave. You can’t miss the delightful green monster mouth puking up a tornado of vibrant colors. Don’t be fooled..this little truck is jam packed with some AWESOME food!

So we ended up ordering four dishes. My favorite was the pork belly on rice. The pork belly has these delicious crunchy edges that match perfectly with its silky, greasy insides… and the kim chi has the perfect zing to cut the richness of the fat. My second fav would be a tie between the Ssam and Yakitori on Rice, and my least fav (which was still delish) would be the Mushroom Rice. Words of wisdom: don’t get the Mushroom Rice unless you ABSOLUTELY LOVE mushrooms, otherwise.. it’s a bit much. Next thing I’m desperate to try is the “Instant” Ramen Noodle. Anyway, until next time- if you are ever bumming around East Austin, please make a pit stop at the East Side King at The Grackle!!

I just came back from an amazing trip to LA to visit some family. The weather was unfortunately cold and rainy, but I still had a blast bumming around town in this comfy outfit:

AustinCakeBall3 11 Austin Cake Ball Happy Hour

Mmm mmm mmmmm! My boyfriend, my bestie, and I went to Austin Cake Ball yesterday for the happiest little happy hour in town.

The Stuffed Peppadews {piquanté peppers, citrus mascarpone, white balsamic honey gastrique}: Playful mix between tangy and sweet. I love the contrast between the juicy pulp and the creamy mascarpone inside.

Red Velvet Chicken Sliders {kimchi buffalo sauce, havarti, pickled vegetables, sweet roll, sesame slaw}: Red velvet mix… in chicken??? Who knew it would taste like a little drop of crunchy heaven!! This sandwich is so delicious and lovely to look at. The chicken has a perfect crunch with bit of spice and sweetness. The onions and cheese on top just take it over the top. So novel!

Slow Braised Short Rib Sliders {caramelized onions, horseradish cream, bleu cheese mashed potatoes}: Total classic. Short Ribs are one of my favorite foods, and ACB has done an excellent job nailing that “fall off the bone” texture. The blue cheese mashed potatoes are a perfect compliment to this sexy sandwich.

Sweet Cherry Almond Cake Balls {Natural cherry oil, pure almond extract, sweet cream butter, diced almonds, tart Montmorency cherries, vanilla buttercream}: One of my favorite flavors! The perfectly intense almond flavor balances out the tartness of the cherries just right. This was the featured cake ball of the day, so we decided to go with three [plus the featured flavor of the day has a discount if you sit down and eat!]. Perfect ending to happy hour :)

If you’re ever in Austin, please do yourself the favor and go visit Austin Cake Ball. You won’t be disappointed ;)
